Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Electric Concept Wallpapers
Chevrolet showed that it plans to offer the technology over a range of vehicle types by introducing the MPV5 variant at the Beijing Auto Show. Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Electric Concept may look familiar because the exterior is similar to that of a previous people-mover concept, the Orlando. The MPV5 employs the same Delta architecture as the Volt, but has a slightly longer 108.7-in. wheelbase, measures 180.5 in. overall and stands 63.5 in. tall and 73.7 in. wide. As the name implies, the MPV5 is capable of carrying 5 passengers and up to 62.3 cu. ft. of cargo when the rear bench seat is folded down.
Like the sedan, the MPV5 uses a plug-in 16-kW lithium ion battery pack to travel up to 32 miles in pure electric mode, while a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine provides up to 300 miles of additional range by generating power to drive the 150 bhp/111-kW electric motor driving the front wheels. Theoretically, if your commute is a short urban cycle, you can use the car as a pure electric—Chevy says recharging through a typical 120-volt home outlet will take about 8 hours, while a 240-volt outlet gets the job done in half the time.
In addition to offering the flexibility of pure electric and hybrid modes, the Volt MPV5 promises a modicum of performance. Top speed is rated at 100 mph and acceleration should be brisk with 273 lb.-ft. of torque on tap from the vehicle’s electric motor. The Volt MPV5 rides on 19-in. wheels and is equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes that also employ regenerative braking.
Although the vehicle made its debut in Beijing, the fact that North American and Australian design teams collaborated on the vehicle underscores that Chevy is looking to offer a wide array of these range-extended electric vehicles in the domestic market as well as for export. According to Bob Boniface, director of North American Crossover Exterior Design, “The Volt MPV5 concept takes the efficient design of the Chevrolet Volt and adapts it to the family vehicle crossover segment,” he said. “It’s immediately recognizable as a true member of the Chevrolet family.”
