Volkswagen Tiguan

Volkswagen has revealed the first images of its new Tiguan SUV: the automaker's first compact 4x4 scheduled to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Following from the Concept Tiguan revealed the Los Angeles Motor Show last year, the production version retains many of the styling cues found on its larger Touareg sibling - including the crease running between the front and rear wheelarches and the characterful front fascia. Unlike the Touareg, the new car features a revised tailight design that is arguably better resolved. With a more rounded shape, clear center and red surround, the clusters are reminiscent of the Passat taillamp treatment.

Slightly larger than VW's Touran MPV, the Tiguan measures 4.4m long, 1.8m wide and 1.6m tall and will come equipped with VW's 4MOTION four-wheel drive and an 18 degree angle of approach. A model with a 28 degree angle of approach, a radiator protection grille, underbody protection, hill descent control and a compass will also be available for those seeking more off-road prowess.
